EKPC is committed to innovation. That means we work
hard to find new solutions for energy problems such as how to meet our
customers’ growing needs for electric power.
One way we have addressed this need is through an
investment in renewable energy sources. Touchstone Energy Cooperatives
were the first in Kentucky to offer green power made from the methane gas
that is given off by trash at landfills. The plants are located in Boone County,
Greenup County, Laurel County, Hardin County and Pendleton County.
Several Touchstone Energy Co-ops are selling the
output from these plants to retail customers through a voluntary program
called EnviroWatts. Customers pay only $2.75 more per month for each
100-kilowatt block of green power and have the option of enrolling for all
or just a portion of their electric bill.
Now Touchstone Energy is looking into another source
of renewable energy – the wind. For the past year, EKPC has been measuring the speed and direction of wind generated from
two 170-foot high test towers in Eastern Kentucky.
EKPC is proud to be a part of Touchstone Energy and
to be on the cutting edge of technological innovation.
