EKPC
launched this non-profit group with two goals in mind: To educate
the public about amphibians, and to get an idea how many frogs are
in Kentucky in order to spot trends in their populations.
Frog species in some areas of the world appear to be in rapid
decline. We believe that tracking frogs tells us a lot about the
health of our environment. If things don’t go well for them, that
could be an indication of bad things for people because frogs absorb
oxygen through their skins and spend most of their time in the
water.
Frog populations are down in parts of Australia, California and
Costa Rica. No one is sure why, but to get a better handle on the
situation, we need better estimates on populations.
Frog Loggers consists of volunteers of all vocations and ages to
do the job. The group is already finding new populations. For more
information about Frog Loggers, contact Seth Bishop
or Missy Toncray at (859) 744-4812.
